For the culturally curious, this journey through Italy is a feeling that you've become much more savvy after an art history briefing. It’s walking through the medieval alleys of Siena... or bicycling along the walls of Lucca. It’s laughter. It’s sharing vino made from grapes in the vineyards you’ve just walked through and kicking back. It’s about becoming a part of day-to-day Italy... and new views on life... Hear a recital by a concert pianist in his private palazzo and chat with a master of art restoration... discover the beauty of natural marble and Cinque Terre villages overlooking the sea, connected by walking trails... bicycle on old Tuscan walls and explore the medieval alleys of Siena...

Guided Bike Tour in Lucca

A cooking class in the Tuscan hills

Day 6

Learn culinary secrets with a hands-on demonstration, tasting and lunch in the Tuscan hills

In case you were wondering, Tuscany is indeed all about the food... as you’ll see for yourself at a hands-on cooking lesson with local chefs at Fattoria Colle Verde, one of the region’s foremost wineries and olive oil producers. You’ll do some olive oil tasting, some wine tasting, and dive into a pasta-making class to help create a lunch that can best be described as delizioso.

4x4 tour of Carrara's marble quarries

Day 4

Tour the marble quarries of Carrara, used for millennia, aboard a 4x4 vehicle

Traveling along winding roads towards the Gulf of Genoa, you’ll arrive at Carrara. This is the oldest industrial site on Earth, where highly-prized Carrara marble – considered the finest in the world – has been quarried for over a thousand years. Get a closer look as you ride aboard a 4x4 vehicle on a guided tour of the quarries, with their mountains of white marble, in operation since the days of the Roman Empire. Carrara marble has been used in some of the most recognizable structures on Earth, from ancient Rome’s iconic buildings to Renaissance sculptures like Michelangelo’s “David.”

Plaza Hotel Lucchesi

Nights 1, 2 and 3

A rooftop (and more) with a view...

The inimitable city of Florence might just be at its best when seen from the rooftop bar of the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi, overlooking the River Arno and Firenze in all of its Renaissance glory. One of the first hotels in Florence, the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi opened in 1860, and over its long and colorful history has catered to artists, celebrities, statesmen and authors – including the British novelist D.H. Lawrence, who wrote his infamous "Lady Chatterly's Lover" while staying here with his wife in the 1920s. Perhaps you'll be inspired during your stay here, too; your room will have a view featuring the Arno or the Duomo and Santa Croce.

Cinque Terre has the most spectacular views I have ever seen. Hiking is amazing, beaches that are beautiful, and the food... delizioso!

Smaller groups foster camaraderie and lasting friendships among like-minded travelers; you'll engage more closely with local experts and enjoy enhanced insider access, ease of travel and freedom to linger longer.

What you need to know

Before You Go

Required

Travel Documents, Booking and Deposits, and more

No matter where your destination may be, you should bring identification with you; a valid passport is always an appropriate form of identification. Contact your booking agent for information about all necessary documents required for your journey, such as passport and visa information or documentation required for transportation security measures.

Important Information

Health and Activity

You'll find Activity and Pace Levels on all of our trips to give you a better idea of physical activity level – higher numbers mean a more active journey. To fully enjoy most journeys, you should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances; some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot and may include unpaved and uneven surfaces. Please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice.

Protect Your Travel Investment

Deposit Protection Plan

Deposit Protection Plan – Tauck provides a “Deposit Protection Plan” at a cost of AUD $75 per person per tour or cruise. The cost is non-refundable and non-transferable and must be paid at the time of booking with your deposit. It only applies when you cancel your tour or cruise prior to final payment date. The deposit held in credit will exclude fees imposed by third parties in relation to air, rail travel, hotels, transfer or applicable cruise cabins. When booking airfares through Tauck (including when taking advantage of a special offer that includes air travel), standard airline cancellation fees will apply. In some cases, airfares will be non-refundable. In the event of cancellation, these fees will be deducted from the deposit paid, and therefore the credit being held. We will only credit the remainder of deposit to a future tour or cruise booking if you book within 24 months of cancellation of the original Tauck tour or cruise. This offer expires after the 24 months. We will only credit the remainder of the deposit to a future tour or cruise booking Balance Due and it can’t be used as a credit for the initial deposit of a future tour or cruise booking. The Tauck “Deposit Protection Plan” only covers a Tauck tour or cruise and it does not replace Travel Insurance, which we recommend at the time of booking.
