A traditional lobster bake on Prince Edward Island

A traditional lobster bake on Prince Edward Island

For more than 150 years lobstering has been an important mainstay of rural Prince Edward Island where life ebbs and flows with the lobster season. Traditionally the first day of the season is an island-wide event when the community comes out to cheer the lobstermen as they head out to sea with their traps. When traps are pulled with lobsters inside, the celebration continues at traditional lobster bakes known as Ceilidh and pronounced kaylee, a delectable feast of locally grown culinary fare. Enjoy this special feast during a picnic lunch in a riverside setting when you are exploring the island's many storied charms.

Awe-inspiring Acadia National Park

Awe-inspiring Acadia National Park

One of America's oldest national parks, Acadia National Park was established in 1916 as the first national park east of the Mississippi River. It is located on Mount Desert Island along Maine's craggy coast with the beautiful oceanside town of Bar Harbor serving as its natural gateway. Here ponds, lush forests and tide pools near the shore give way to rolling hills and a park road that runs up to the top of Cadillac Mountain, where t360 degree views of the ocean and islands take your breath away. Explore the park by motor coach or bicycle as you keep watch for deer, porcupine and moose that may happen by along the way.

I was in my element planning this new cruise program. To experience these places, all of which share a common sea-faring thread but which each have their very own personality has been a delight to organize.
