From city wonders to natural treasures, our California family vacation explores San Francisco and Yosemite National Park like no other.

World Travel. Family Discovery.

Our California family tours take you from the Golden State's shining seas to national park treasures as you explore San Francisco, Yosemite National Park and the Monterey Peninsula together.

Tauck brings you behind the scenes with filmed narratives by Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan – creators of The National Parks: America's Best Idea – who share personal stories of the dreamers, visionaries, and unsung heroes who shaped the preservation of Yosemite. Cruise under the Golden Gate Bridge and discover "the city by the bay" from a hotel in the heart of it all at Union Square. Go back to the Gold Rush era, then see cutting-edge energy technology for the 21st century. You'll be awed by Yosemite... and the awesome activities you'll enjoy in and around the park, including a moonlit dinner train ride in Sierra National Forest. On the Monterey Peninsula, visit the amazing Monterey Bay Aquarium and choose a walking tour of Old Monterey, a bike ride or a kayak adventure. It's all part of our unforgettable California family tours from Tauck Bridges!

Cruising by private catamaran on San Francisco Bay

Day 2

Who's that sailing on San Francisco Bay?

When it opened for business back in 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge – which links the city of San Francisco with California’s Marin County across San Francisco Bay – was both the longest and tallest suspension bridge in the world. Although it no longer holds those records today, this beautiful structure is still a pretty big deal, and officially ranks among the “Wonders of the Modern World.” And just think… you and your family will take a walk across it. But first, you’ll do something just as cool… sail underneath the Golden Gate Bridge on a private catamaran cruise on San Francisco Bay... feeling the wind in your hair as you take in the sights from the water… including infamous Alcatraz Island, once home to an “escape-proof” Federal prison.

Trek up to Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park

Day 4

Overlooking Yosemite's treasures from Glacier Point

You’re on top of the world at Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park, which your family will visit with a National Park Service guide. The view from up here might be the most famous on the planet – offering a stirring panorama including the Yosemite Valley, America’s tallest waterfall, Yosemite’s high country, famous Half Dome and a parade of glacier-formed peaks. And you’re standing where history was made… because on this very spot in 1903, conservationist John Muir stood with Teddy Roosevelt during a private tour of the area that persuaded the President that Yosemite should be protected as a national park.

The Aquarium & seaside adventures in Monterey Bay

Day 7

Family adventures aquatic on Monterey Bay

In Monterey, go adventuring by the sea on Monterey Bay with your choice of bicycling, kayaking, or a walking tour of old Monterey. Then, on a private behind-the-scenes tour of the acclaimed Monterey Bay Aquarium, get close to otter pups, penguins, sharks, octopuses, jellyfish, sea turtles, barracuda and more – just a few of the more than 10,000 live aquatic animals that call this place home, where huge glass tanks make you feel like you’re under the sea. And wrap it all up with a private farewell reception and dinner inside the Aquarium itself!

The campfire in the woods after the train ride was my favorite part. I loved sitting outside listening to the songs with my grandma.

Deposit Protection Plan

Deposit Protection Plan – Tauck provides a “Deposit Protection Plan” at a cost of AUD $75 per person per tour or cruise. The cost is non-refundable and non-transferable and must be paid at the time of booking with your deposit. It only applies when you cancel your tour or cruise prior to final payment date. The deposit held in credit will exclude fees imposed by third parties in relation to air, rail travel, hotels, transfer or applicable cruise cabins. When booking airfares through Tauck (including when taking advantage of a special offer that includes air travel), standard airline cancellation fees will apply. In some cases, airfares will be non-refundable. In the event of cancellation, these fees will be deducted from the deposit paid, and therefore the credit being held. We will only credit the remainder of deposit to a future tour or cruise booking if you book within 24 months of cancellation of the original Tauck tour or cruise. This offer expires after the 24 months. We will only credit the remainder of the deposit to a future tour or cruise booking Balance Due and it can’t be used as a credit for the initial deposit of a future tour or cruise booking. The Tauck “Deposit Protection Plan” only covers a Tauck tour or cruise and it does not replace Travel Insurance, which we recommend at the time of booking.
