Conveniently set in the heart of the New Zealand’s premier alpine resort, Sofitel Queenstown Hotel & Spa is within walking distance to the city’s most exciting attractions, and serves as an excellent base for exploring the region’s other places of interest. Just steps from beautiful Lake Wakatipu and the dining district, Sofitel Queenstown provides a luxurious retreat in which to unwind after an action-packed day... with the comfort of a Sofitel MyBed and the extravagance of a double spa bath in every room.

Totally worth the trip to see the land parts of scenery where The Lord of the Rings was filmed!

Tauck Traveler Review

A private sheep shearing demonstration

Day 7

See serious sheep shearing on a South Island farm

In many countries around the world – and especially in New Zealand, home to the world's largest annual competition, the Golden Shears – the art of sheep-shearing (cutting off a sheep's woolen fleece, usually once a year) is not only an important skill on the farm, but a competitive sport among shearers who are typically fit and highly experienced. New Zealand has hosted numerous World Championships and produced many champion shearers. In a private demonstration on a working farm on the South Island, learn how sheep-shearing has progressed over the centuries, and watch modern shearers in action.

Important Information

Health and Activity

You'll find Activity and Pace Levels on all of our trips to give you a better idea of physical activity level – higher numbers mean a more active journey. To fully enjoy most journeys, you should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances; some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot and may include unpaved and uneven surfaces. Please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice.

Protect Your Travel Investment

Deposit Protection Plan

Deposit Protection Plan – Tauck provides a “Deposit Protection Plan” at a cost of AUD $75 per person per tour or cruise. The cost is non-refundable and non-transferable and must be paid at the time of booking with your deposit. It only applies when you cancel your tour or cruise prior to final payment date. The deposit held in credit will exclude fees imposed by third parties in relation to air, rail travel, hotels, transfer or applicable cruise cabins. When booking airfares through Tauck (including when taking advantage of a special offer that includes air travel), standard airline cancellation fees will apply. In some cases, airfares will be non-refundable. In the event of cancellation, these fees will be deducted from the deposit paid, and therefore the credit being held. We will only credit the remainder of deposit to a future tour or cruise booking if you book within 24 months of cancellation of the original Tauck tour or cruise. This offer expires after the 24 months. We will only credit the remainder of the deposit to a future tour or cruise booking Balance Due and it can’t be used as a credit for the initial deposit of a future tour or cruise booking. The Tauck “Deposit Protection Plan” only covers a Tauck tour or cruise and it does not replace Travel Insurance, which we recommend at the time of booking.
