Experiences of a lifetime

The best of South Australia awaits, as you taste your way on food and wine adventures through Adelaide, the Barossa Valley, Melbourne, Freycinet National Park, Hobart, Port Arthur, Richmond and Sydney – and step onto the wild side with a choice of outdoor adventures on the Freycinet Peninsula; a safari in search of sea eagles and white wallabies on Bruny Island; meeting Tasmanian devils and other indigenous wildlife; exploring along the striking Tasmanian coast.

It's all about breathtaking Australian landscapes, exotic wildlife, world-class wine, and innovative cuisines on this 15-day journey off the beaten path. Begin with three nights in Adelaide, gateway to South Australia's famous wine country, where you'll tour this ethnically-diverse, gourmet-friendly city by Segway or pedicab. Set off on an off-road adventure in Onkaparinga River National Park; tour wineries in Barossa Valley, Australia's premier wine-making region. Then it's on to Melbourne to explore its trendy backstreets and laneways (and taste its famous coffee); take the Great Ocean Road to stunning seascapes of sheer cliffs, beaches and towering rock formations. Fly to Tasmania and spend two nights at a world-class resort in on the Freycinet Peninsula for a choice of outdoor activities. In Hobart, spend a sparkling private evening at the Museum of Old and New Art; explore the town's exciting food scene; tour the remains of Port Arthur prison; and meet Tassie devils, blue-tongued lizards, bettongs, koalas, quolls and other exotic residents on a visit to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Experience a wildlife safari on Bruny Island, and a wine and cheese tasting excursion in Richmond; and cruise the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, teeming with birds and marine-life, for close-up views of its breathtaking cliffs and rock towers. Fly to Sydney for a private tour of the Opera House, a luncheon cruise in the harbor, and guided neighborhood tours with a local from your base at a waterfront luxury hotel. Welcome to an Australia you've never experienced before!

MACq 01 Hotel

Unrivaled views await...

Every room has a story to tell in this unique luxury hotel overlooking the Derwent Estuary from Hobart's most historic wharf, not far from Salamanca Place – known for its market stalls, art galleries, pubs, and restaurants – and the royal botanical gardens. Each room has a theme designed around a character from Tasmanian history; in fact, regional history and culture is reflected in art and décor throughout the hotel.

The 12 Apostles

Day 8

Along Great Ocean Road... the 12 Apostles await

Travel along Great Ocean Road as the 12 Apostles each begin to reveal themselves to you. Carved naturally from erosion over the last thousands of years, the 12 Apostles stand tall as the ocean waves churn and knock against them below. Their higher levels of calcium carbonate from animal skeletons and shells on the sea floor in their composition has helped them to stand the test of time and is what separates them from their surroundings. The sight of these momentous structures will leave you truly awestruck.

Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary

Discover Bonorong and its many indigenous species.

To some of the animals, Tasmania is the only home they've ever known... to others, it is their last home on Earth. Enter Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, a place to help Tasmania's fragile wildlife and ecology, with a goal focused on giving back to the surrounding Tasmanian environment. Here, you have the opportunity to meet kangaroos, koalas, wombats, cockatoos, bettongs, the notorious Tasmanian Devils and much more, all while learning about the philosophy behind the sanctuary and the people who run it.

It's a long way from Florida, but totally worth it. The cities are beautiful and the people are amazing. We are already talking about going back.

Most Memorable Moment:

So many it's hard to choose. Holding a Koala was on our bucket list, big check mark. Snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, the Opera House on the harbor in Sydney, Urula at sunset. The chartered jets were awesome, and saved so much time.

Itinerary is well thought out & covers many of the tourist highlights of Australia. City tours of Melbourne & Sydney were excellent. We suggest that Tauck delete the Thala Beach Lodge. The beach has crocodiles & poisonous jellyfish. The property is located on a too steep incline to be comfortable. There appear to be better lodging options.

Most Memorable Moment:

A helicopter flight over the Great Barrier Reef and our fantastic guide at Ayers Rock (Uluru).
