One of our most popular South American tours explores the best of Chile, Argentina and Brazil.

Experiences of a lifetime

From the western coast of Chile to the eastern coast of Brazil by way of Patagonia and the Andes, through some of South America's most breathtaking scenery, we’ll share the pleasures of this wonderfully diverse continent with you.

Tauck’s comprehensive 14-day South American tours inspire with in-depth discoveries of the many natural and architectural wonders of this remarkable continent. Spend multiple nights in world-class cities – two in Santiago, and three in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro – at fine hotels in the heart of each city. Cross the Andes overland and by private boat. View spectacular Iguazú Falls from both Brazil and Argentina. Sample the fine wines of Chile and famous Argentinian beef; get a behind-the-scenes look at Rio's colorful Carnaval; feel the passion and the heat of the tango and the samba. This most enriching of South American tours is the experience of a lifetime! Buenos Aires' Teatro Colón

Day 8

Behind-the-scenes at the Teatro Colón opera house

Acoustically considered among the five best concert venues in the world (alongside concert halls in Vienna, Berlin, Amsterdam and Boston's Symphony Hall), Buenos Aires' current, seven-tiered Teatro Colón opera house opened in 1908 with a production of Verdi's "Aida" – replacing a previous incarnation that was in operation in Argentina's capital from 1857 until 1888. You'll enjoy a privately guided, behind-the-scenes tour of this Argentine gem – which emerged in 2010 from a three-year, $100 million renovation – including its magnificent central chandelier, exquisite stained glass, allegorical ceiling frescoes, marble staircases and opulent Gold Room.

Iguazú Falls from both sides of the border

Days 10 and 11

Experience the "Great Waters" of Iguazú from Brazil and Argentina

Sixty-five feet taller than Niagara Falls and twice as wide, Iguazú Falls – a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site – was also named one of the “New Seven Wonders of Nature” by the New Seven Wonders of the World Foundation. In fact, you have to visit two countries to get a complete look at this natural wonder; its 275 cascades are spread in a horseshoe shape over nearly two miles of the Iguazú River, straddling the borders of Argentina and Brazil. On day 10, you'll experience the falls from the Argentinian side, where they're known as Iguazú. On day 11, check out the Brazilian side; here, they're called Iguaçu. But they're spectacular by any name!

Belmond Copacabana Palace

Nights 11, 12 and 13

Art Deco elegance on Rio's iconic Copacabana Beach

Rio de Janeiro's Art Deco-inspired Belmond Copacabana Palace overlooks the Brazilian city's world-famous Copacabana Beach. Having first opened its doors to a celebrity clientele in 1923, the hotel continues to welcome guests with an impeccable reputation for graciousness and service... offering a host of amenities to ensure a most comfortable stay, including guest rooms featuring original works of art.

The pace of the trip was wonderful and the organization of the logistics of moving between locations was exceptional.

Small Group Departures

Our small group departures, averaging just 24 guests, are designed for travelers who want more time to experience each destination up close and personally. One of the benefits of small group travel is the personalized service and attention you’ll enjoy. Small groups enable our Tauck Directors to spend more time in the places you explore with more opportunities to connect with them. Smaller groups foster camaraderie and lasting friendships among like-minded travelers; you'll engage more closely with local experts and enjoy enhanced insider access, ease of travel and freedom to linger longer.

Solo Traveler Savings

Traveling solo doesn't mean traveling alone – with Tauck, it means camaraderie on a journey with like-minded travelers who share similar interests, enjoying the spirit of travel that makes exploring the world a necessary part of life – and sharing the special travel experiences found on Tauck’s guided land trips and cruises that create lifetime memories. For 90+ years, solo travelers have found a special "travel" home with Tauck in destinations the world over – and we’re offering solo travelers an additional reason to travel with Tauck – special Solo Traveler Savings on select departures.

What you need to know

Before You Go

Required

Travel Documents, Booking and Deposits, and more

No matter where your destination may be, you should bring identification with you; a valid passport is always an appropriate form of identification. Contact your booking agent for information about all necessary documents required for your journey, such as passport and visa information or documentation required for transportation security measures.

Important Information

Health and Activity

You'll find Activity and Pace Levels on all of our trips to give you a better idea of physical activity level – higher numbers mean a more active journey. To fully enjoy most journeys, you should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances; some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot and may include unpaved and uneven surfaces. Please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice.

Protect Your Travel Investment

Deposit Protection Plan

Deposit Protection Plan – Tauck provides a “Deposit Protection Plan” at a cost of AUD $75 per person per tour or cruise. The cost is non-refundable and non-transferable and must be paid at the time of booking with your deposit. It only applies when you cancel your tour or cruise prior to final payment date. The deposit held in credit will exclude fees imposed by third parties in relation to air, rail travel, hotels, transfer or applicable cruise cabins. When booking airfares through Tauck (including when taking advantage of a special offer that includes air travel), standard airline cancellation fees will apply. In some cases, airfares will be non-refundable. In the event of cancellation, these fees will be deducted from the deposit paid, and therefore the credit being held. We will only credit the remainder of deposit to a future tour or cruise booking if you book within 24 months of cancellation of the original Tauck tour or cruise. This offer expires after the 24 months. We will only credit the remainder of the deposit to a future tour or cruise booking Balance Due and it can’t be used as a credit for the initial deposit of a future tour or cruise booking. The Tauck “Deposit Protection Plan” only covers a Tauck tour or cruise and it does not replace Travel Insurance, which we recommend at the time of booking.
