Cultural journeys and expeditions

Floating castles of ice glisten in the warmth of the austral sun... glacial mountains rise from the sea, framed against a radiant sky... in an instant, a bright sun illuminates a floating regatta of ice formations... Explorers throughout the centuries have been captivated by the ice... Today, you are that Antarctic explorer.

Few experiences can compare to the feeling you'll have as you head off on an expeditionary Antarctica cruise. Your adventure begins with two nights in amazing Buenos Aires, Argentina, then it's all aboard Le Boréal, Le Soléal or Le Lyrial for a 10-night cruise. The locals, from penguins and seals to seabirds, welcome you ashore with friendly curiosity; learn about their life and icy habitats from onboard naturalists who educate and inspire. And at night, enjoy informal chats, onboard lectures, documentary films and warm camaraderie with fellow explorers, captain and crew. Read Less

Exploring Antarctica's Archipelago

A magical place whose mystical allure fascinates and forever beckons to return...

The magnificent great white continent of Antarctica, the most remote place on Earth, astounds with glacial landscapes and Arctic wildlife that defy description… and you enjoy a rare opportunity to view them up-close with on-board experts who have spent a lifetime studying these natural wonders in extraordinary detail. Due to changing weather and shifting glacial patterns of this remote region, your day-by-day itinerary will vary and may include Zodiac excursions to Antarctic Peninsula islands. Penguins, seals, whales and myriad species of seabirds are often seen on land and at sea; our on-board naturalists can help you identify them during your cruise.

Embark in Ushuaia, the world's southernmost city

Day 3

Ushuaia, Argentina's "gateway to Antarctica"

Your Antarctic cruise begins in the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia, an Argentinian frontier town located on the Tierra del Fuego Archipelago and the Beagle Channel. Known as "the end of the world," Ushuaia is also the only Argentine city that sits on the other side of the Andes. Sightseeing takes you up and down the hilltop streets that preside over this waterfront town...

Our visit to Antarctica left us spellbound! The ruggedness of the Peninsula landscape was unexpected and the sheer beauty was magnificent!

All Inclusive, One Upfront Price

Distinctively "inclusive" means just that – virtually every cruise cost is included in one upfront price, from shore excursions (private to Tauck), all gratuities, premier hotels on land stays, port charges and more. There are no options sold – no extra charges, no hidden costs, no "surprise" expenses.

Airport Transfers Included

Upon arrival and departure, transfers to and from your hotel are included as noted.

Book Your Air

International Air is additional. Contact Tauck for rates on international air for travel originating in Australia (subject to availability).

What you need to know

Before You Go

Required

Travel Documents, Booking and Deposits, and more

No matter where your destination may be, you should bring identification with you; a valid passport is always an appropriate form of identification. Contact your booking agent for information about all necessary documents required for your journey, such as passport and visa information or documentation required for transportation security measures.

Important Information

Health and Activity

You'll find Activity and Pace Levels on all of our trips to give you a better idea of physical activity level – higher numbers mean a more active journey. To fully enjoy most journeys, you should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances; some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot and may include unpaved and uneven surfaces. Please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice.

Protect Your Travel Investment

Deposit Protection Plan

Deposit Protection Plan – Tauck provides a “Deposit Protection Plan” at a cost of AUD $75 per person per tour or cruise. The cost is non-refundable and non-transferable and must be paid at the time of booking with your deposit. It only applies when you cancel your tour or cruise prior to final payment date. The deposit held in credit will exclude fees imposed by third parties in relation to air, rail travel, hotels, transfer or applicable cruise cabins. When booking airfares through Tauck (including when taking advantage of a special offer that includes air travel), standard airline cancellation fees will apply. In some cases, airfares will be non-refundable. In the event of cancellation, these fees will be deducted from the deposit paid, and therefore the credit being held. We will only credit the remainder of deposit to a future tour or cruise booking if you book within 24 months of cancellation of the original Tauck tour or cruise. This offer expires after the 24 months. We will only credit the remainder of the deposit to a future tour or cruise booking Balance Due and it can’t be used as a credit for the initial deposit of a future tour or cruise booking. The Tauck “Deposit Protection Plan” only covers a Tauck tour or cruise and it does not replace Travel Insurance, which we recommend at the time of booking.

Again, we were not disappointed. Tauck always does it right and we can truthfully say "You got it right, again". Every detail was taken care of, even to the taxi transfers. The ship Le Soreal was wonderful, the guides were very attentive to our every need and concern and the excursions were more than we could have asked.

Most Memorable Moment:

The Penquins and Whales - the Captain went out of his way to make sure we got every experience with the wildlife that was possible!!!

This trip is difficult to describe. Antarctica is like a different planet. Just go and experience the greatest journey of your life.

Most Memorable Moment:

There were so many, but negotiating the Drake Passage with 25-30 foot swells was something to remember.
